The unit will normally be supplied as
a retrofit assembly to our standard B530 Counter. It is not normally suitable for use with
our B520 or B630 series counters. The unit may be simply and quickly attached to the
standard B530 and does not preclude further use for the counting of standard axially and
radial bandoliered components.
Loading the Tape:
The full reel should be mounted on the Left hand spool holder. Take the film
leader and pass it along the slot round the toothed wheel, ensuring that it engages with
the sprocket wheel teeth, and out through the slot on the far side. Feed the leader onto
the empty spool fitted on the right hand spool holder, ensuring that the sprocket holes
on the bottom of the tape engage with the teeth on the sprocket wheel. Fit the handle
supplied such that the drive pins engage in the slots at the centre of the empty spool. As
spool thickness' are not always consistent, try to ensure that the film carrier is
as near horizontal as possible when passing through the guide path. This may be achieved
by using suitable packing spacers under the reels. Set the film retaining guides such
that they just ride lightly on top of the tape
Care should be taken when counting components carried in paper tape to avoid
drawing the tape too quickly through the guidance system. Some paper tapes are quite stiff
and will tend to snag in this situation, a steady pull is all that is needed to ensure
trouble free operation. Do not on any account force the tape past the sprocket wheel,
as damage will result. It is also beneficial to clamp or screw the base unit to a
bench
Counting:
To maintain count veracity note should be taken on the number of components passing
through the sprocket counting wheel on to the take-up spool, ignoring any length of empty
leader. Components should normally be loaded such that the blister faces inward towards
the counter body.

Start Point:
A small red arrow is fitted to the centre
of the adaptor body, this indicates the start point of any count. The start point of the
first pocket containing components should be aligned to this mark. The counter should then
be reset to ZERO at this point (i.e. Depress the orange
Button)
Counting small quantities:
The simplest way of counting small quantities i.e. less than full reel, is to pull the
empty leader through to the RIGHT EDGE OF THE SMD ADAPTOR and then ZERO the
count. Now observing the LCD Display, run up to the desired number of components and then CUT
THE TAPE AT THE RIGHT HAND EDGE OF THE ADAPTOR. You will then have the correct number
of components on your tape. This is simpler than marking the tape and counting off from
that point. The method outlined can be compared to compensating for the weight of the pan
when using comparative Weigh Scales
